Jane Slagsvol, the wife of the late singer-songwriter Jimmy Buffett, recently shared a heartfelt message expressing gratitude towards fans, friends, and medical professionals who supported them during Jimmy’s illness.
In her tribute, Jane reflected on their journey together, stating, “As Jimmy said a few months ago, ‘growing old is not for sissies.’ These last few years have been unimaginably challenging for Jimmy and me, and we’re not sissies.” She expressed deep appreciation for the unwavering support they received: “Everywhere we went, at arenas, at events, and even in the hospitals, we were surrounded by love.”
Jane also acknowledged the dedication of the medical team, saying, “You gave him hope, even at the most hopeless moments. You were honest, brave, and empathic; you showed us such dignity and goodness.”
Reflecting on Jimmy’s character, she shared, “Jimmy was love. Every cell in his body was filled with joy. He smiled all the time, even when he was deeply ill. And his sense of humor never wavered.”
She concluded with a poignant reference to one of Jimmy’s final songs, “Bubbles Up,” noting, “Jimmy knew he was loved. Right until the end, he looked for the light.” Jimmy Buffett passed away on September 1, 2023, at the age of 76, after a battle with Merkel cell carcinoma, a rare form of skin cancer. Jane’s message serves as a testament to the love and community that surrounded Jimmy throughout his life and career.
